One of my favorite characters in all of Disney is the Genie from Aladdin. He is so energetic and so much fun. And let’s face it, who doesn’t want a genie! The Genie does what is asked out of duty. You have three wishes and he grants the three wishes regardless of what they are. But in the end he does it out of friendship and love.
One of my favorite stories in the bible is the story of Ruth and Naomi. Naomi was Ruth’s mother in law. After both of their husbands die. Naomi decides to return to her homeland and urges Ruth to do so as well. However, Ruth refuses and responds with one of the most famous verses of the bible Ruth 1:16-17:
“Where you go, I will go; where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die—there will I be buried.”
Ruth is a symbol of loyalty and devotion. Those are two traits that I think all of us value. So, who or what are you devoted/loyal to? Ruth was devoted to Naomi and utimately God. Genie was devoted to his duty and then Aladdin. We all know the proper answers we are supposed to respond when asked what our priorities are – in order they are: God, Family, Friends. But if we looked at our calendars and time spent on things – would the things we think we are loyal to coincide with it? I challenge you to look at that and think about what things you might want to change.
