Everyone loves Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds in Singing in the Rain. During the production of Singing in the Rain, Kelly was very critical of Reynolds’ dancing ability (she was trained as a gymnast) so much so that at one point Fred Astaire walked into a practice room and found Debbie Reynolds crying under a piano. He got her out and promised to help her with her dancing. The filming of the song Good Morning took 15 hours to film and Debbie Reynolds had to be carried to her dressing room because her feet were bleeding so badly. But you never see any of that when you see the song/film. The magic of stage and screen theater. Kelly later said that he choreographed to the ability of his partner, so he knew Debbie could do it.
Why does any of this matter? Besides the fact that it is entertaining, it can be related to what we are going through a little bit. Sometimes we have to fake it until we make it; we can go around and sing good morning, good morning to you and bring sunshine to some people. Make no mistake that does have a very positive impact on our mental state. But sometimes, we need to express our emotions and be real and find a piano to crawl under and cry.
Elijah was a great prophet of the Old Testament. He dealt heavy blows against the false gods at the time. But he was human and at one point ran to hide in the caves. He went and slept and had no desire to go on. The angels tended to him, fed him and strengthened him. They pulled him out from the piano. He went on to continue his ministry, find his successor and ascend into heaven.
So, if you need to- go to the piano and take a moment or so to cry. But you can’t stay there. Pray to God to send you strength and call someone and let us be the Fred Astaire to get you out and help you. And then start singing Good Morning again.😊
