“Morning Glow” – Pippin

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

“Morning Glow” from Pippin is about a new day dawning, the sunrise and all that comes with that. For the morning after Easter, this seems appropriate. We can start a new week, a new day and a new season. Two fun facts associated with Pippin are first is that Bob Fosse was the original director and choreographer. He is one of the most famous, if not the most famous choreographer with a record of eight Tony’s for choreography. He is known for sharp moves with hats. Fun fact is that he incorporated hats because he was going bald and wanted to cover it up. The second one is that Pippin usually does the show barefoot. That’s because in the original production the actor playing Pippin couldn’t find comfortable shoes, gave up and went barefoot. Fosse loved it and he did all following shows barefoot. I find it funny that two things that just kind of happened became iconic and associated with the show and Fosse.

Isn’t that how life is. Sometimes things just happen and then become so incorporated into our lives we forget how it started in the first place. I gotta be honest, I am so over this quarantine. I want to get back to normal. But wanting it is not going to change anything. So, I’m going to listen to morning glow and think about this as a new beginning. What do I want to keep and what do I want to let go? In the book of Lamentations, Jeremiah wrote “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed…they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.” So, I can rest in His arms and know that whatever I do is enough. I can start today knowing that the bad will fade into the past because morning glow is here at last.
