“My New Philosophy” – You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

I always find this song funny because it is so true. Sally is upset about her latest grade. That is nothing new as she often confuses words in her oral book reports. So, she has decided she is done and isn’t going to try anymore. She looks for philosophies and is onto the next thing. That is so many of us right now. We grab onto the latest idea. Then it doesn’t work out or we get bored, so we go to the next big thing just as quickly. Rather than jumping on the next big thing why don’t we evaluate our most basic philosophies. In Matthew 22:34-40, Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment and he replied:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

All the law hangs on these two commandments. If we put these two philosophies at our forefront and base all of our decisions on them, we will be able to stay on the path that God has planned for us. So, the next time I get annoyed or bothered by something on social media or in life in general – I will say a quick prayer to help me remember this.

Although I may adopt one of Sally’s philosophies “I can’t stand it!” That one I want to say a lot these days.

Matthew 22:34-40
