“One” – A Chorus Line

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

A Chorus Line is a musical that follows 17 dancers who are auditioning for a spot in the chorus. A Chorus Line was formed from several taped sessions with Broadway dancers as the interviewers were planning to form a set of Broadway workshops. The play follows the lives of these 17 actors. “One” is one of the audition songs that talks about the amazing unnamed person who is a “singular sensation and thrilling combination” and obviously stands out when they walk into any room.

We all know that person – one singular sensation every move that she makes. Yes, she is that perfect woman and mom that does everything right and has it all together. Well reality is not the perfect persona that we all see but rather the thoughts going through her head are just like that in the song. The dancers are stating the next step, counting and trying to remember everything thing they have to do. It’s the same with the person we think has everything together. They are constantly thinking of what they have to do, how they can get it all done along with all the doubts and insecurities. So, let’s not fall for all the smoke and mirrors. We are all beautiful, sensational and amazing, faults and all.

Isaiah 43:4 says, “You are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you.”

So whatever doubts you have, faults you think you have or when you don’t think you measure up – let it go. Because you know who and whose you are. At the end of A Chorus Line there is a reprise of One. As the actors come out to take their bow, they are dressed exactly the same. Ironically, instead of being able to distinguish the singular sensation you cannot distinguish any of the dancers from the others. As one group they are a sensation – and just like us – they are all sensational.

Exodus 14:14

Luke 12:6-7

Ephesians 2:10
