I love Newsies! I love that it is historical, and the dancing is amazing. And of course, it is because Kenny Ortega choreographed the movie and the play and even had a consult from Gene Kelly. What is funny is that it did okay at box office, but not great. However, it developed a cult following. Ortega talked Disney into making it into a Broadway Musical when he realized how many high schools across the country were doing bootleg versions of it and paying no royalties to Disney. They agreed and planned a run of 100 shows. Newsies run on Broadway was over 1000 shows. This kind of follows the comeback story of the plot.
I feel like we are in the boat right now. We can all band together and in the end we will prevail. “Once we’ve begun- if we stand as one-someday becomes somehow- and a prayer becomes a vow!” So today take on the spirit of this song. Don’t let fear or despair overtake you. In Ephesians, Paul writes to the church of Ephesus as they were being persecuted daily by the Romans. In Ephesians 5:15-17 he says to not live in fear but to make the most of every opportunity and to understand the Lord’s will. So, say a prayer and do a tap dance to Seize the Day as you prepare to “answer the call and don’t delay.”
